Rollins compiled a .990 fielding percentage for the Phillies, who won the National League for the second successive year but lost out to the New York Yankees in the World Series.

“I would like to thank the managers and coaches who felt I was worthy of a Gold Glove Award,” Rollins said in a statement.

“Defense is a very important part of my game and it truly is an honor to be recognized as one of the best defensive players in the league.”

Another Phillies performer, Shane Victorino, won the center field award for the second straight year.

Adrian Gonzalez of the San Diego Padres won the glove for first base, Orlando Hudson, of the L.A Dodgers claimed second base while Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman took third base.

St. Louis Cardinals had two award winners in catcher Yadier Molina and pitcher Adam Wainwright.

Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp won his first Gold Glove for his 14 outfield assists and Houston Astros center field Michael Bourn was another first time winner.

Vick, now a seldom-used backup quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, pleaded guilty in August 2007 to bankrolling a dog fighting ring and spent 18 months in jail.

Until Vick’s reinstatement earlier this season, the National Football League suspended him indefinitely without pay and initiated a grievance procedure allowing the Falcons to recover some of the bonus money he was paid.

In 2004, Vick signed a mammoth contract through 2014 that called for bonuses of $22.5 million based on him making the team’s 2005 roster and another $7 million for 2006.
